Amador cover artist and illustrator Claiborne O'Connor (with Casey) in her home in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, 2008
The recipe books, TWELVE GIFTS and MORE GIFTS by Adela Amador, and the children's book LITTLE BROWN ROADRUNNER by Leon Wender, are completely hand-lettered and illustrated by Claiborne O'Connor. We will be displaying some of the original artwork at unpcoming bookstore appearances so that today's book lovers can appreciate Mike's artistry and pre-digital-age graphic arts techniques. For some it will be an eye-opener; and for others, a trip down memory lane.
Mike taught at the Academy for ten years, and it is there that she met Harry Willson and first collaborated with him on junior school Art and English projects. Some years later, after Mike had begun her own graphics arts business, she encountered Harry at the grocery store. He told her about his new publishing company and asked if she would illustrate his first book, DUKE CITY TALES. Mike agreed, and the rest, as they say, is history. Mike went on to provide cover art and illustrations for the many of the Amador Publishers books which followed.
